Tiffany ring size chart

Tiffany ring sizes are standard US sizes, so a Tiffany 6 is the same ring as a size 6 from any American jeweler: 16.5 mm across the inside and 51.9 mm around it. Tiffany sells rings from size 3 to size 13 in half-size steps, and its own chart converts each one to UK letters and European numbers. If you fall between two sizes, Tiffany says take the larger.

There is no separate Tiffany scale. The number on the product page is the US ring size, the same 3 to 13 scale every jeweler in the country uses, in half steps. That is good news if you already know your size, and it matters if you are buying a ring as a surprise, because any US size you can find (a ring they own, an old receipt, a jeweler's note) will order the right Tiffany ring without conversion. The chart below is Tiffany's own, with the millimeters that make it usable.

Does Tiffany use standard ring sizes?

Yes. Tiffany's size guide labels its first column "Tiffany Size" and its second "United States", and the two columns are identical from 3 to 13. A Tiffany 7 is a US 7, which is 17.3 mm across the inside and 54.4 mm around. Nothing to translate, unless you are shopping from a country that sizes rings differently.

For those shoppers, Tiffany's chart carries six more columns: South Korea, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, and Spain. Most of them are the same millimeters written a different way. The German number is the inside diameter, the French number is the inside circumference, and the Italian and Spanish numbers are that circumference with 40 taken off. So a German 16.5, a French 52, and an Italian 12 all describe the same ring as a Tiffany 6. If that arithmetic is new, ring sizes by country walks through each system.

Every row below is from Tiffany's published guide. Diameter and circumference are the inside of the band. The EU column is Tiffany's French number, which tracks the circumference to within half a millimeter.

Each half size adds about 1.3 mm of circumference and 0.4 mm of diameter. Those are small numbers. A ruler held across the inside of a ring cannot tell a 6 from a 6.5 with any confidence, which is why the printed circles in the next section beat a ruler for this job.

One thing to know about the UK column. Tiffany's letters run a half letter larger than the ones on our own ring size chart, which lists a US 6 as L 1/2 where Tiffany writes M. The UK scale is defined by a table rather than a formula, and different publishers round it differently. A half UK letter is about 0.6 mm of circumference, under a quarter of a US size, so either letter will get you the same ring from a British jeweler.

How do I use the Tiffany printable ring sizer?

Print it on US Letter paper at 100 percent scale, then check the scale before you measure anything. Tiffany prints a line for a credit card and marks three of its circles for coins: a dime in the size 8, a penny in the 9.5, and a nickel in the 11.5. If the card sits on its line and a coin sits inside its circle, the page printed true. If not, reprint with scaling turned off.

The coins work because they are made to a known size. The US Mint lists a dime at 17.91 mm across and a penny at 19.05 mm, so on a page that printed 5 percent small the dime no longer drops into the 18.1 mm circle. Browsers and print drivers shrink pages without asking, and a sizer that printed at 94 percent reads a true 7 as an 8. Every method on the page depends on this one check, so do it first.

Tiffany then gives you two ways to read a size:

1. Match a ring you own to the circles. Lay a ring that fits the right finger over the circles until you see only the white circle inside the band, with no blue showing. If the fit falls between two circles, Tiffany says choose the larger size.
2. Cut out the paper ruler. Cut the slit at the marked line, wrap the ruler around the base of the finger, pull the tapered end through the slit, and read the size at the arrow. The ruler runs from 1 to 13.

Two lines from Tiffany's own instructions are worth repeating. Measure your knuckle as well as the base of the finger, and pick a size that goes on and off easily. A ring sized to a slim finger base can refuse to pass a wider knuckle, and the larger of the two readings is the one to order.

What if I am between two Tiffany sizes?

Order the larger one. That is Tiffany's advice in both its printed guide and its online size page, and it is the right call for a plain reason: fingers swell more than they shrink. Heat, salt, exercise, and the late afternoon all push a finger to the top of its daily range, and a ring that is a touch loose at breakfast is wearable while one that will not pass the knuckle at 6 pm is not.

The gap you are choosing across is a half size, about 1.3 mm of circumference. Tiffany's chart has no quarter sizes, so if your finger sits at 53.7 mm, which is between a 6.5 and a 7, you take the 7. Wide bands change the answer slightly. Tiffany's narrow T True ring is 3.5 mm wide and fits at your measured size. A band of 6 mm or more sits over a longer stretch of finger and has more metal to drag past the knuckle, so it needs about a half size more. Can Tiffany rings be resized?

Most can, and engagement rings are resized free. Tiffany's engagement FAQ says it offers complimentary resizing for all Tiffany engagement ring purchases. You take the ring into a store, or send it in with the prepaid shipping label that came in the box. The same page adds that while there is no restriction on resizing, Tiffany recommends against resizing a ring multiple times, since each cut and rejoin works the metal.

For other jewelry, Tiffany's care and repair FAQ says it alters and resizes the majority of its styles, with timing and pricing quoted per piece through client care or a store. Two cautions from Tiffany itself apply here. Its printed sizer notes that sizing availability is specific to each product, though some larger rings can be sized down. And once a piece has been altered, it cannot be returned.

The designs that will not resize are the same ones that resist it everywhere: full eternity bands with stones all the way around, and bands with a pattern running the whole way round. Buying a Tiffany ring as a surprise

Borrow a ring they wear on the right finger and measure the inside. Tiffany's size page describes this method for exactly this situation: measure the interior diameter in millimeters, then find the closest row in the chart above. A 16.5 mm opening is a 6. A 17.3 mm opening is a 7. If you have the printed sizer, set the ring over the circles instead, and match the inside of the band to the outer edge of a circle.

Get the finger right, too. The two hands differ, and a ring worn on a middle finger tells you nothing useful about the ring finger. If you cannot get a ring at all, start from the average.
